Elsie May was born at Payneham on 2 April, 1895, and attended the Wellington Street School. On leaving school she worked in the home of Mr and Mrs Weger. She left at the request of her brothers Hurtle and Jim, to go to Broken Hill to work in their shops. Before her marriage, Elsie met an acquaintance of her brothers named Stan Lund. Later, on 16 April, 1919, Elsie and Stan were married from the house of Elsie’s brother Bob at Payneham. The couple returned to Broken Hill after their marriage and lived at the old nursery which they had bought from Elsie’s brothers. The Lunds’ first child Audrey Hilda was born there in 1920.
Due to a slump in Broken Hill, Elsie and Stan moved back to South Australia and went to Mannum, on the Murray, where Stan worked for David Shearer’s, Agricultural Implement Makers. Later the Lunds moved back to Adelaide and made their home at Richmond for the rest of their married life. Elsie was a much loved wife and mother, an industrious worker for her family of three children, and with her husband, a faithful member of the Christadelphian Church. She died at Richmond on 12 May, 1974, aged 79 years. Her husband survives her.
