Edmund was born at Mannanarie on 26 July, 1877. He was aged about nine when his family left the wheat farm at Pinda and came down to Gawler to live. Being the eldest son, it is presumed he helped his father Thomas on their farm east of Gawler. Nothing certain is known of Edmund’s movements for the most part of his life, however. Thomas was forced to add a codicil to his Will in 1913 to ensure that Edmund received his share of the estate. ‘Whereas my son Edmund Sandercock left Gawler aforesaid some time ago and I have not heard of or from him for several years and do not know his present address or whether he is yet alive....’; Thomas added the direction to his executors that for a period of 5 years Edmunds share of the farm was to be held for him. As it eventuated, Edmund died 2 months before Thomas. He had been admitted to the Parkside Mental Hospital at some time, and died there of maniacal exhaustion and Pyaemia on 18 June, 1916. He had never married and was aged 38 years at the time of his death. It is not known whether he was buried at Willaston, but the date of his death is recorded on the side of the Gravestone of his parents at the cemetery there.
